No changes in TPLex Phase III’s original plan
COJUANGCO PROPOSAL JUNKED
THE National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) confirmed that right-of-way acquisition is on-going to pave the way for the construction of Phase II of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) from Urdaneta City to Rosario, La Union.
NEDA Regional Director Nestor Rillon said construction of Phase III of TPLEx will proceed using the original plan prepared by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and not the revised alignment proposed by former Fifth District Congressman Mark Cojuangco.
Cojuangco’s proposal which was rejected by DPWH, it will be recalled, seeks to skirt a large area in Sison as it turns left to San Fabian town, a good eight kilometers longer than the original plan.
Phase III, with a total distance of 25.83 kilometers, together with the 13.72-kilometer Phase II that is now 96.39 percent complete, cost Php 1.380 billion, said Rillon during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas (KBP) forum in Dagupan City last week.
Phase I of TPLEx was from Tarlac to Rosales, Pangasinan is already 100 percent completed.
Phase III of TPLEx is set to be completed before President Benigno Aquino III ends his term.
Meanwhile, a feasibility study for the extension of TPLEx to Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, also possibly under the Public Partnership Project scheme is already being undertaken, said Rillon. (Leonardo Micua)
