Still a NEDA priority
THE disclosure made by NEDA’s regional office that the development of the Pangasinan Economic and Tourism Zone that hosts the 18-hole golf course in Lingayen remains one of the top priorities for development in the region, is good news.
If only politics had not reared its ugly head and the provincial government had closely adhered to established government rules on projects that impact on the environment, Pangasinenses would have already proudly started to spread the news this year that the province has another a major tourist destination and activity to offer- a golf course built on international standards fit for professional competitions.
With the golf course and other attractions in place at the eco-tourism zone, Pangasinan will be hosting golfers (and their families) from Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore, not to mention the thousands of local golfers in the country in search of new courses to conquer. The presence of the golf course presents a good tourist link to the destinations in western (100 Islands, Bolinao Sual etc) central (Dagupan City, San Fabian, etc.) and eastern (Manaaoag and cities of Urdaneta and San Carlos, etc.) parts.
So much have been lost in economic opportunities for the province and our people. It is in this context that we urge those opposing the development of the eco-tourism zone in Lingayen to begin to cease and desist because the cases filed have already served their purpose – to delay the project. And the costly delay only left hundreds of families deprived of economic benefits intended for them.
Grace’s deadweight
HAVEN’T you noticed? Presidential rivals Mar Roxas and Jojo Binay seem to find it hard choosing their respective running mates in the 2016 polls. Roxas wants Grace Poe but the lady senator says no. Before that, Poe rejected Binay. Seemingly, the reason behind Poe’s twin rejections is she will also run for president. And it’s been whispered out loud that she has fellow senator Chiz Escudero for her running mate.
But until it’s not done, it’s not done. President Aquino, as LP titular head, continues to pine for Poe’s company, driven by his conviction that Poe’s stupendous popularity could trigger Roxas’ victory. Binay thinks the same.
But between the two, Roxas appears closer to snaring Poe. What’s blocking it is Escudero’s delusional belief that Poe will wipe out Roxas and Binay in May. Without her realizing it, Senator Chiz could be dragging Poe by to a political suicide.
