DCPS: 132 drug pushers arrested in 8 months

THE campaign against illegal drugs in Dagupan City has been proceeding without letup amid reports of increasing volume of shabu reaching the city as one of the major transshipment points in the region.
This claim is told in an update of its campaign released by the Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS) to local media last week: 132 persons have been arrested, 335.3 grams of shabu and 0.535 grams of marijuana were seized in 103 anti-drug operations conducted over an eight-month period, from January to August 2015.
P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano, chief of police, pointed out that of the 132 persons arrested, 103 have been charged in court and are detained at the Dagupan District Jail while awaiting the termination of court proceedings against them.
The data has made the city police leading 47 other police stations in Pangasinan. It is followed by cities of Urdaneta, Alaminos and San Carlos, the towns of Villasis, Bani, Bayambang and Pozorrubio.
Statistically, 16 drug pushers are removed from the streets every month in the city where two barangays, Boanuan Gueset and Bonuan Binloc, have been tagged by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as the most seriously affected in northern Luzon.
Among those arrested included the No. 6 and 10 in the wanted list, the No. 1 in the target list and No. 3 and 10 in the watch list in his city.
The seized 335.3 grams of shabu had an estimated street value of P1.6 million.
Abrahano said the station’s anti-drug operations were focused mostly on three most seriously drug-affected barangays in the city Dagupan, namely: Bonuan Binloc, Bonuan Gueset and Pantal.
He said under his watch, from 2013 to August 2015, a total of 830.47 grams of shabu valued with an estimated street value of P4.5 million were already seized.
Notably, Mayor Belen Fernandez confirmed that most of the 132 apprehensions in the city over the 8-month period were made possible by information reported by concerned citizens to the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) under a program “Text a Pusher” launched in 2014.
Fernandez said the proven policy of confidentiality of information texted by concerned citizens including the number of mobile phones to protect the sender has contributed largely to the effective operations of the police.
Ms. Fernandez is a Hall of Fame national awardee of the Dangerous Drugs Board in the campaign against illegal drug while Abrahano was cited once as a national awardee.
