Cong. Mark’s MEDIKALINGA reaches out
COJUANGCO UPDATES
FORMER Pangasinan Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco’s MEDIKALINGA Surgical Mission has been helping thousands of indigent patients across Pangasinan with their free medical healthcare.
Cojuangco joined the team behind MEDIKALINGA on Sept. 21 in San Manuel town for the screening of patients who want to avail themselves of the “all-free” surgical mission.
Cojuangco, seated in one corner, observed how the crowd, young and old alike, already seated in the queue, patiently wait for their names to be called.
As part of his multi-sectoral programs, the former three-term congressman wants the poor given equal access to quality medical care for their needs.
There were times when he was surprised by some teary-eyed people embracing him during his sorties only to learn that they wanted to thank him personally for allowing them to become beneficiaries of his health care project.
Many continue to suffer from various illnesses for years, unable to seek medical attention due to poverty and they could only offer their sincerest gratitude by hugging him. For the congressman, the unsolicited expressions of gratitude are what make the congressman’s heart tug.
For Cojuangco, he knew he made the right decision to privately finance MEDIKALINGA, in partnership with Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay. His program has reached out to thousands of indigent patients, who for years had to endure having cysts, goiters, hernias, circumcisions, myomas and other diseases or sickness requiring surgery because of poverty.
There are three stages of the program: minor operations to be undertaken in designated venues in the province and medium and major operations to be done in selected third level hospitals where the program has tied up.
Barangay Health Workers are his active partners in this project launched on August 25 last year.
