Barangay folk oppose transfer of their school
SISON–Town and barangay officials of Sison, joined residents of Barangay Esperanza in expressing their opposition to the planned transfer of the Esperanza Integrated School to a new site from its present location during a public hearing held at the school complex last Sept. 3, 2015.
In a signed resolution they presented during the public hearing, the school principal confirmed that she has secured a land title covering the school site and will oppose its transfer to protect the school’s interest.
The Esperanza Integrated School is being relocated at the back of the present site which is part of a communal land that was already surveyed and titled in the name of some informal settlers.
At the same time, they maintained that the proposed relocation site is within the Bued River and the school would always be in danger of being flooded if the river overflows its banks during the rainy season, endangering the lives of pupils and teachers.
A letter of Mayor Mina Joy Pangasinan to Vice Mayor Bensaulozacheus Mariñas dated August 11, 2015 confirmed the plan to transfer the Esperanza Integrated School to a new site and that “a proposed school building has been previously planned during the incumbency of Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco at the lot behind the Esperanza Integrated School, as per your meeting with Congressman Cojuangco last August 6, 2015 with Manong Karyo.” (Leonardo Micua)
