1st Senior Citizens’ Day in Natividad held

Admiration to the efforts and vital contributions of elders in the society were expressed with sincere respect by provincial officials who attended the first staging of Senior Citizens’ Day celebration in Natividad town on September 16.

Addressing hundreds of elders from various barangays of the sixth district town, Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. underscored love for Pangasinan as the driving force, which propelled his administration to usher in massive development in various areas of local governance since 2007.

“What we do in the province now as your leaders is not intended for us anymore, but for the benefit of future generations,” Governor Espino pointed out as he noted that the revival of culture and traditions of the province has elevated the “dignity and pride of being a Pangasinense.”

The provincial chief executive also bared that with the enduring efforts to boost agriculture, health care, sports, social protection, tourism among other areas that earned us many regional and national awards and citations, Pangasinan has been noted as “the best-performing province” and “a destination of choice for study tours by Local Government Units (LGUs).”

The elders of Natividad led by Manuel Rivera, head of the Office of Senior Citizens’ Association (OSCA) and Marina Sevilla, president of the Senior Citizens’ Association of Natividad (SCAN) were also present to welcome Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. and Provincial Board Members Alfonso Bince, Jr., Ranjit Shahani and Amado “Pogi” I. Espino, III.

“The legislation of your Senior Citizens’ Day,” Vice Governor Calimlim said, “is a manifestation of the province’s respect to your pivotal roles in the society.”

Meanwhile, BM Espino, currently the Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial President, urged the elders, who are mostly retired employees of government and private sectors, to continue helping the barangays. “Your wisdom, experience and advice are still needed by the community, particularly the youth who needs your guidance,” the young Espino said.

“Alagaan po natin ang mga susunod na henerasyon, protektahan ang mga barangay at mahalin ang ating probinsya,” he added.

BM Bince, on the other hand, noted that for 28 years of his stint as provincial legislator, he had the opportunity to have witnessed the leadership styles of seven governors.

“Governor Espino is the best governor the province of Pangasinan has ever had,” BM Bince said as he added that under Espino’s watch, the province has become an outstanding LGU that we can be proud of.

In a show of support to the incumbent provincial administration, BM Shahani, urged the elders to constantly take part in the efforts for the over-all development of Pangasinan.
