STO. TOMAS —This town, known as the most peaceful with disciplined people, launched its Honesty Store at the municipal hall.

Mayor Timoteo Villar III formally opened Thursday a small section at the ground floor of the municipal hall where snacks like biscuits, candies, junk foods and drinks on a serve-yourself-pay-honestly basis.

It is the first-of-its-kind known to be adopted in Pangasinan. An Honesty Store in Batanes Island has become a tourist attraction.

The town’s Honesty Store encourages patrons to pay exact amount indicated in each item, in consonance with its slogan, “Ang Tindahang Mapagkakatiwalaan. Bili Ko, Kuha Ko, Bayad Ko, Sakto!”

“Although we have been known and admired for having very disciplined people, we want to imbibe this time the virtue of honesty,” Villar said. “Honesty must be practiced even without someone looking at you,” he added.

“This is also to showcase of how honest Sto. Tomas municipal government employees are. If you are trustworthy in small things, surely you can be in bigger things,” the mayor added.
