THE new set of officers of the Federation of Parents Teachers Association (FPTA) and the other PTA officers in all the 31 barangays took their oaths of office before Mayor Belen T. Fernandez on August 3 at the city museum.

Kagawad Imelda Q. Gonzales was re-elected to lead the federation for another year along with Gerry O. Prades who remained as vice-president.

Gonzales is the PTA president of Leon Francisco Elementary School in Bonuan Boquig while Prades is the PTA president of the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS).

The other officers are Melody Gonzales, secretary; Veronica Baldo, sub-secretary; Roger Paragas, treasurer; Sofia Torio, sub-treasurer; Marlon Abordo, auditor; Gerardo Datuin, PIO; Arthur Lomibao, peace officer; Ginalyn Tio, business manager; and Criselda de Guzman, Decila Aquino, Erlinda de Leon, Emilie delos Santos and Jun Bunag as board of directors.

In her message, Fernandez urged the officers “to take the lead so that others will follow, to take the lead on what is best to do for the schools for the benefit of their children”.

Fernandez said that through the PTA Summits held last 2013 and 2014, the different concerns of the schools were identified and were immediately addressed by the city.

“I am happy that through the PTA Summits that we had, marami nang mga proyekto ang ating nagawa at napondohan at lahat ng mga K to 12 schools ay nabigyan na ng allocation na classrooms so we no longer have to worry how to accommodate our students under the program,” said Ms. Fernandez noting that the city was the first in the entire country to hold two PTA Summits already.

Fernandez is an avid supporter of the K to 12 Program of the Department of Education even before she was still the city’s vice mayor.

“I saw the importance of the K to 12 Program and how this could be of help to our children especially in developing their skills though it is unpopular. This could help improve the life of our children,” said Ms. Fernandez.

Ms. Fernandez said the PTA will always play an important role in the development of the schools and the children.

She admonished the PTA and the Department of Education headed by Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo to work hand in hand for the success of the upcoming Children’s Congress which will focus on the health of the children.

Gonzales on the other hand acknowledged the support of the city through the mayor and is looking forward to a more harmonious working relationship and more projects for the schools with the support of Mayor Belen and Bravo. (CIO)
