Javier fastest in Malaysian duathlon
PANGASINAN son and national team member Robeno Javier proved his might overseas on August 4, 2015 by conquering the annual 2015 Port Dickson International Duathlon Championship held in Padang Kawad in Negeri Sembolan, Malaysia.
The Sto. Tomas town native Javier, 30, came out strong in the final leg to overcome a tough challenge from a Malaysian elite duathlete Mohd Zuhar Bin Ismail in the last 150 meters, registering his first win abroad after many tries.
Javier clocked the 10-kilometer run, 60-kilometer bike event and the last 8-kilometer footrace in two hours, 43.9 minutes outdistancing Ismail by 26 seconds to pocket the 900 ringgits top prize, a handsome trophy plus a package of incentives.
“I tried to keep pace with the leaders in the first two legs, but in the last run that’s when I pulled away towing Ismail and outsprinted him in the last 150 meters,” said Javier.
“This is my first win abroad and I’m dedicating this victory to my family and to my province Pangasinan,’ Javier added. (Jesus Garcia Jr.)
