Garcia wins karting formula race
GABRIELLE “Gaby” Garcia, 18 years old, and a freshman of De La Salle
recently won the Formula SL Ladies Class in the 2015 Asian Karting Open
Championship held at the Carmona Racing Circuit last August 22-23, 2015.
Gaby, a grandchild of the late couple Gerardo (former editor of The PUNCH) and
Boots Garcia, was barely a year in the field of karting when she competed and won
her first international competition where she drove against veteran karters in the
international circuit.
Driving a KT100 powered PCR, she clocked the fastest lap time on the wet and dry
condition tires during practice and qualifying rounds, and earned no. 2 in pole
position in the final race.
She was trailing early leaders in the first 5 laps and managed to overtake them on
lap 6, and went to clinch the trophy.
Gaby, trained and handled by well-known racing coach Elson Carpio and veteran
mechanic Carlos Villena, was supported by the newly formed Focal- Praga team of
Karting enthusiasts Mickey Tang and Ryan Gohu.
