DOH launches ‘Hi Impact 5’

THE Department of Health thru the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) — its main arm in the province — will launch tomorrow, August 10 its historic “High Impact Five” program to fully complement and support DoH regional offices to achieve Universal Health Care/Millennium Development Goals.

Dr. Joseph Roland O. Mejia, hospital chief, said DoH Assistant Secretary Elmer Punzalan representing Sec. Janette Garin, will be the guest of honor and speaker.

Other principal guests are Governor Amado Espino Jr., DoH Assistant Regional Director Edwin Sanchez, and Provincial Health Officer Anna Ma Teresa de Guzman.

The launching rites, which will start at 7 a.m., with a mass and flag ceremony, will have a 3-kilometer motorcade in the province’s central district, Chief of Staff Ramon Bautista said.

Hi-5 is focused on maternal health, infant health, child health, HIV/AIDS, and the Service Delivery Network, Director said, naming the 4 major initiatives as branding, Kapit Bisig para sa Kalusugan Pangakalahatan, improving access to available drugs, and strengthening the Service Delivery Network.

It also has features to symbolize the Alagang Pinoy brand, and highlight the 4 Cs of the Secretary of Health – Committed, Competent, Compassionate/caring, and Creative – health human resource personnel of DOH Hospitals.

Other features are Alagang Pinoy Kiosk, Alagang Pinoy Tagubilin, Kuya/Ate Dok and Kuya/Ate Nars and Kapit Bisig para sa Kalusugan Pangakalahatan.

DOH Hospitals will ensure the availability of drugs and medicines in support of the “No Balance Billing” policy.

The testing kits and relevant IEC materials will be provided by the DOH-CO’s National AIDS and STI Prevention and Control Program. Furthermore, refresher and standard courses on counseling will be provided to old and new HIV AIDS Core Team members.

The program will finally have a search and recognition project for best SDN practices and, for the purposes of Hi-5, shall initially focus on maternal and infant health, HIV/AIDS, and blood services. (Jun Velasco)
