Dagupan is K to 12 ready next year–MBTF

MAYOR Belen Fernandez has expressed confidence that Dagupan City will be K to12-ready by next year, when the implementation of the Senior High School (SHS) program starts.

She gave the assurance after conducting another inspection of three public schools where 31 classrooms will be built, all to be funded by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor).

Ms. Fernandez was accompanied by City Engineer Virginia Rosario.

The city of Dagupan will be needing a total of 139 additional classrooms based on a study conducted by the city government but the mayor has planned on 170 classrooms.

Inspected by the mayor and the city engineer were the T. Ayson Rosario Elementary School where a three-storey building with six classrooms will be built, the Pantal Elementary School where a three-storey building with nine classrooms will rise; and the Malued Elementary School where a three-storey 16-classroom building will also be built.

These are on top of the additional classrooms pledged by Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia and Education Secretary Armin Luistro, said Ms. Fernandez, concurrently the League of Cities of the Philippines’ (LCP) focal person of the SHS program of K to 12.

The Security Bank Foundation has began constructing a two-storey school, eight-classroom building at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Meanwhile, the city government is set to build a three-storey building for culture and the arts at DCNHS and another three-storey school building at the Carael National High School. (Leonardo Micua)
