I have to defend my personal honor and integrity – Espino

LINGAYEN – In confirming the filing of the libel cases against four radio commentators, the provincial information office released Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr.’s reaction and statements to the local media.

“I have nurtured my good reputation and my family’s clean name all my life for these are the only wealth that my children and grandchildren will inherit.

This has prompted me into filing libel charges against some radio commentators. I will continue to value and defend my good reputation, my clean name, my dignity.

I will not allow dirty politics to destroy our unity and the solid foundations we have built for the benefit of our people.

What is most unkind is that the people who have destroyed my good name gloat that they love their home province.”

Mr. Espino said he has spent 47 years in public service as a soldier, a policeman, a congressman and now as Governor. In all those years, he said, he encountered controversies and criticisms but never filed any case against anybody, except this time when his critics have exceeded the bounds of decency in their commentaries.
