“Pogi” Espino lauds ALS Graduates as models of people empowerment

BOARD Member Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III congratulated all 726 Pangasinenses who composed the latest batch of Alternative Learning System (ALS) passers for “having persevered to acquire the credentials necessary for gainful employment, or for further education, despite having failed to complete formal education in schools.”
The provincial government has sponsored the “alternative schooling” of many Pangasinan residents who have wished to avail of the special ALS program that was designed by the DepEd to provide basic education to out-of-school children, youths and adults as part of the task to empower ordinary citizens, most especially the poor.
The new ALS passers were honored during a graduation program held last July 15 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PTDC) for the 2014 Accreditation and Equivalency (A & E) Test.

Espino III, who was the guest speaker of the ALS graduation rites, praised the ALS passers “…for having shown strong determination in overcoming their stations in life, acquire the necessary tools provided by the ALS for greater opportunities that will help advance not only their families, but also succeeding generations in their respective communities.”
For his part, Vice Gov. Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. commended the ALS test passers for showing to their families and communities the determination to move ahead, despite life’s difficulties, such as what they did in going through the ALS non-formal education program, which now affords them better chances of making it in the outside world.
As a requirement for graduation, the 2015 ALS batch had undergone a 10-month learning period and completed 800 hours of learning sessions. The A & E test was held last December 2014 according to Dr. Cielito Fe C. Angeles, Education Program Supervisor. /Kristine de Vera
