Parole and Probation officer shot dead
BINALONAN—The officer-in-charge parole and probation officer in Rosales town was shot dead while she was walking on her way home in Barangay Sumabnit here Tuesday evening after she alighted from a bus.
Chief Inspector Oliver Abayan, police chief here, said the fatality was Mary Alcaide Romua, 44, who sustained gunshot wound on her left eye.
Abayan said responding policemen rushed her to Urdaneta City General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigators recovered two empty shells from caliber .45 at the crime scene.
Witnesses said an unidentified person riding a motorcycle was seen driving to and fro the crime scene prior to the shooting. When Romua alighted from the bus she rode from her workplace and started to walk home, the suspect approached her and shot her.
Abayan said motive for the killing has yet to be determined but the police are looking at all angles, from her personal and to her work-related activities.
Robbery would also be a motive since the suspect took her bag. “But this could be just a ploy of the suspect to mislead the investigators,” he added.
Abayan said they will look into the victim’s previous assignments at the Parole and Probation Administration of the Department of Justice for more information. (Tita Roces)
