A LIVELIHOOD program and basic health services are among the promises made by Mayor Belen Fernandez for the thirty families to be relocated from the dumpsite area to Sitio Korea in Barangay Bonuan Binloc after the completion of a core shelter project.

Fernandez made the remark during the groundbreaking ceremony for the core shelter assistance program and the inauguration of a day care center in the area last June 3.

The ceremony was led by Marcelo Nicomedez Castillo, director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 1 together with Fernandez and department heads of the city government.

At least thirty houses will be built for the thirty families to be relocated that will cost the city P.5-M under the bottoms-up- budgeting (BUB).

Castillo said the joint project of the DSWD and the city government of Dagupan is a government program that provides shelter to families living in critical areas.

He cautioned the families against selling their relocation houses as some beneficiaries in other places did.

“Do not sell your houses as these are given to you by our government for free, if you wish to do so please coordinate with your local social welfare office”, said Castillo.

Meanwhile, Fernandez said the city government will also build a health center for the community.

“We will bring the services of our city even closer to you”, said Fernandez noting that the city health office (CHO) already conducts free medical mission in the 31 barangays of the city under the “Alagang Balon Dagupan” heath care program.

Fernandez also assured the families that their members will also be prioritized for employment in the upcoming Waste to Worth (W2W) project of the Procter and Gamble Philippines and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the city.

W2W is $20 million plant project that will be constructed in the city to convert wastes into commercial gas.

Fernandez urged the families to be responsible, support each other and to shun gambling and drug abuse.

“We will help you but you should also help us by helping yourselves”, Fernandez said. (Hilda Austria)
