LINGAYEN— The fate of drug dealers and hired killers riding-in-tandem in the province may have found a formidable foe in the new officer-in-charge (OIC ) of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO).

P/Senior Superintendent Belli Tamayo told the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) that the fate of the two types of criminals are uppermost in his mind, admitting that these remain serious problems for the province.

His campaign against the drug lords and guns-for-hire are one of the four priorities he has identified to the SP members during the regular session last May 25.

Tamayo, who was designated OIC-Provincial Director of Pangasinan last May 12, said training and performance audit of police chiefs, anti-criminality, community partnerships, and support to government agencies as Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, are on top of his list of priorities.

For his anti-criminality campaign, he will require each city/municipal station to identify their top ten most wanted criminals, and arrest at least one personality each month.

Tamayo also underscored PPO’s continued efforts to get the mastermind behind the slay attempt on Assistant Provincial Health Officer Jeremy Agerico “Ming” Rosario, a former SP member.

In an earlier meeting with PS/Supt. Tamayo on May 15, Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. directed Tamayo to further intensify the anti-illegal drugs campaign being waged by the provincial government.

As OIC-PD, Tamayo will serve as vice chairman of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), an inter-agency unit that develops programs and campaigns against illegal drugs. It is chaired by Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr.

Meanwhile, SP Member Alfonso Bince asked Tamayo to submit his recommendations to stop the rash of robberies targeting public schools.

When asked for his assessment of the peace and order in Pangasinan, Tamayo replied, “It’s relatively peaceful.”

Meanwhile, Tamayo disclosed there has been a 48% increase of rape cases in the first four months of the present year compared to the same period of last year.

Tamayo, who hails from San Miguel, Calasiao, is concurrently also the chief of the Personnel and Human Resources Development Division of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) in La Union.

He also disclosed he is one of the four applicants for the permanent provincial director post for Pangasinan.- Johanne Macob/PIO
