Former CSC chair is new LNU president
THE Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP), in a resolution passed on Tuesday, congratulated former Civil Service Commission (CSC) chairman and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III for his assumption as the fifth president of Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) taking over from his brother Atty. Gonzalo Duque.
The changing of the guards at LNU between the two sons of the late Health Secretary and Pangasinan Governor Francisco Duque Jr. will take effect on June 1.
In another resolution passed on the same day, the SP commended Atty. Duque who was LNU president for 16 years and nine months, making him the longest serving LNU president at whose incumbency; LNU earned the coveted university status on March 19, 2001.
GONZALO
The SP cited Atty. Duque for bringing honor to the city for his leadership as charter president of the Metro Dagupan Collegiate Association in 1991, as president of the Universities and Colleges Association of Pangasinan, and as national president and national chairman of the Private Schools Athletic Association of the Philippines (PRISAA) in 2010, the resolution of the SP further stated in its resolution.
Atty. Duque will become university chancellor of LNU.
FRANCISCO III
The SP resolution also said Dr. Duque’s ascent as the next president of LNU bodes well for the city as education remains its biggest driver of growth, adding that Dr. Duque’s noted brand of leadership is expected to contribute to the fast pace of development and exponential growth of this vital sector in the city.
Dr. Duque was also president and CEO of PhilHealth from 2001 to 2005, Health Secretary from 2005 to 2010 and CSC chairman from 2010 to 2015. (Leonardo Micua)
