LINGAYEN– A people’s organization in Agno town is determined to have the Balincaguing River be proclaimed as an ecotourism area.

The Agno Concerned Citizens for Ecologically Secured and Sustainable Development, Inc. (ACCESS) of Agno town followed through on its earlier appeal to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan requesting the declaration of Balincaguing River into an eco-tourism area/zone.

The letter dated May 11, 2015, signed by ACCESS vice president Lydia Orilla reminded the provincial board that the appeal was submitted several years ago and it has already conducted a committee hearing on the matter including an ocular inspection by the board and a local ordinance was already passed.

She said a multi-sectoral group can be created to conduct consultation once the declaration is made for the implementation of the Balincaguing River Watershed Development Plan.

ACCESS also cited numerous projects for the development of the area that await the declaration, among these are the plans announced by First District Representative, Jesus Celeste, including the construction of a floating restaurant to cruise Balincaguing River, and a land-based restaurant.

Mr. Celeste already requested the local government of Agno for the inclusion of the zone in the Municipal Land Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance. (Johanne Macob)
