Dagupan City to help parolees, probationers

THE city government will help in the rehabilitation of parolees and probationers. This was pledged by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez in response to the appeal of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) for assistance.
PPA Region 1 Director Marissa S. dela Cruz-Alguetra called on Fernandez to appeal for the city’s help. She was joined by city’s Chief Probation and Parole Officer Hercules N. Tandoc; Senior Probation and Parole Officer Rowena DC Ordoña, and PPA Central Office’s Mary Shyne Ann O. Maramba and Hyacinth V. Castaños.
Fernandez said she supports the proposal knowing that parolees and probationers not only have families to feed and support but also have a right to be given a second chance to rejoin the society and live a normal life just like everybody else.
The mayor said she will enroll each one in the city’s livelihood program and help them send their children to school under the MBTF Scholarship Program.
“As I have said again and again, walang Dagupeño na maiiwan. We want every Dagupeño to succeed in life, that is why we will never stop giving them every opportunity under our unliserbisyo,” said Fernandez.
On the other hand, Fernandez sought the assistance of the PPA to seek a presidential pardon for an 86-year old Dagupeño who was meted life sentence for murder.
“That was a good chance for us to bring the case to them and I am hoping that the family of the old man who is our kabaleyan will be able to come home on Christmas and be with his family again. In fact one of his siblings was crying and I felt the pain of seeing her father at his late age still languishing in jail,” said Fernandez.
Fernandez added that while she also feels for the family of the victim, she is hoping that in their hearts lies the virtue of forgiveness, and expressed her willingness to talk to the family. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
