LINGAYEN– Alarmed by the river-drowning incident in Bugallon town that killed five kids, the sangguniang panlalawigan (SP) board has directed three of its committees to investigate the incident.

Directed to probe the circumstances that led to the tragedy are Committees on Environment, Natural Resources and Energy; Good Government and Accountability of Public Officers, Justice, and Human Rights; and Children, Women, Senior Citizens, Family Affairs and Social Welfare.

The board expressed alarm that the families of the victims were not aware that the river was no longer safe for children since it is already five feet deep and current was strong enough to sweep children away.

The board members, in a resolution authored by Raul Sison, Liberato Villegas, and Alfonso Bince Jr., urged the committees to submit recommendations that will protect particularly children from drowning in the province. (Johanne Macob)
