PREPARING FOR PALARONG PAMBANSA

LINGAYEN – The delegation of the Region 1 Athletic Association will be officially sent-off today, April 22 after completing their 5-day in-house training, April 17 – 21, at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa 2015.

Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Director Teresita Velasco commended Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. for providing the opportunity for the more than 500 regional athletes to train and prepare together for the Palarong Pambansa at Tagum City, Davao on May 3 to 9.

Velasco said the governor’s offer to host the whole delegation to train in one venue helped stronger camaraderie and team spirit, an opportunity that was not afforded past delegations.

Mr. Espino, who assured full support to the regional delegation, expressed elation that the weeklong training helped the athletes acquire proper physical conditioning and proper discipline for the young athletes.

In related development, Pangasinan athletes and trainer-coaches from DepEd schools divisions in the province had started their own in-house training as early as April 6. with athletes from other provinces in the region.

Team Pangasinan remained a consistent top performer having ranked over-all 2ndrunner-up in Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg in 2013 and 2014 in a field of more than a hundred participating Local Government Unit delegations.

With the support of the provincial government, DepEd Pangasinan II romped off with the overall championship of R1AA 2015.

The provincial government provided athletes free meals and accommodation at the NRSCC throughout their training and through their travel to Tagum City.

Pangasinan II, on the other hand, harvested 88 gold followed by Ilocos Norte with 41; La Union, 37; Pangasinan I, 30; and Urdaneta City, 21. (PIO)
