City hall wants noise pollution curbed

PUBLIC and private vehicles that use loud mufflers and videoke users who wake up neighbors will soon face a much stiffer penalties if the proposal of the Dagupan City Peace and Order Council is approved by the sanggunian panlungsod.

Specifically, the council is recommending the amendment of the existing city ordinance on noise pollution by exacting higher penalties to check the worsening noise pollution in the city.

Ang mga sasakyan na humaharurot ay hindi dapat pinapayagan, pati ang mga videoke na sobrang lakas magpatugtog dahil nakakabingi at nakaka-abala,” said lawyer Gonzalo Duque, chair of the city’s peace and order council.

The council noted that the existing ordinance only sets a P100 fine for violating the ordinance.

Meanwhile, City Administrator Farah Decano suggested a holistic approach to crack down on noise makers by adopting a well-studied “noise pollution code.” (PIA-Pangasinan)
