Why Pangasinan should have no brownouts…

LINGAYEN–As host of two power plants, the Team Energy and the San Roque Multi-purpose dam there is no reason why Pangasinan should suffer brownouts this summer even as some parts of Luzon will have intermittent power loss as projected.

This was the contention of Alex Rigonan, former vice mayor of Sual town after Sual Mayor Roberto Arcinue asked Team Energy to provide the town with at least one megawatt of electricity daily amid forecasts of brownouts this summer.

One megawatt is the projected power requirement of Sual daily.  Team Energy operates the 1,200 MW Sual coal-fired power plant located in Pangascasan, Sual.

He said the provincial government should demand the same for Pangasinan from both Sual coal-fired plant and the San Roque Multi-purpose dam that produces 315 megawatts during its peak operation.

Rigonan said he is endorsing the move of the mayor seeking to assure continuous electricity for Sual to be spared from the expected series of brownouts this summer.

But Rigonan asked: “Why only Sual?

When the Sual plant was being built in mid-1990s. Rigonan recalled that the people of Sual gave way to this project because the builder of the plant, Hopewell,  assured them that Pangasinan will be saved from brownouts.
