Pangasinan holds Women’s Congress
LINGAYEN– Without the women, there would be no men.
This premise was made by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr., representing Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., during the opening program of the first Provincial Women’s Congress held last week as part of the Women’s Month Celebration in the province, to underscore the importance to the women’s role in nation-building, in building this province.
Anchored on the theme, “Juana, Desisyon Mo Ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!,” the hundreds of women from Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) chapters as well as representatives from groups of women with disabilities, women in the police force, and students.
Liga ng mga Barangay provincial chapter president, Board Member Amado Espino III, added his voice saying “the empowerment of women does not only empower the women themselves, but also their community.”
Among topics discussed were R.A. 9262 or law on Anti-Violence Against Women and Children and RA 9710 or Magna Carta of Women of 2009 led Atty. Ana Luz Cristal of Makati City.
Participants also availed of free haircut, eyebrow-pruning, and massage.
The event was organized by the provincial government in cooperation with KALIPI-Pangasinan Chapter and Junior Chamber International- Northern Luzon.
Emilio Samson Jr., the provincial social welfare and development officer, said the Congress was the culminating activity in the province’s observance of Women’s Month.
Other activities this month fund-raising, search for outstanding women, sports fest, forum on clean and green. (Johanne Macob)
