Farmers complete School-on-the-Air training

STA. BARBARA– Some 1,113 farmers received their certificates of completion for their training on sustainable mango production on March 4, 2015 with a difference – they received their training by listening to the radio!

The farmers and agricultural extension workers from 25 local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan finished their four-month training through the School-on-the-Air (SOA) or “Sanayang Pangradyo sa Agrikultura” on mango production from November 4, 2014 to March 4, 2015.

The SOA training program, organized by the Agricultural Training Institute –Regional Training Center I (ATI-RTC I) since 2009, provides the opportunity to farmers to learn without leaving their farms, was aired every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 in the morning.

Like in formal classes, quizzes, examinations, and other assessment schemes were also conducted.

The event’s guest speaker, ATI-Central Office Director Asterio Saliot, represented by Antonieta Arceo, head of the Information Services Division, challenged the graduates – “You have to make a Choice to take a Chance and your life will Change,” she said.

Top achievers were Remedios Dingle of Manaoag (first honors), Kenneth Lavarias of San Carlos City (second), and Norwen Ian Cervera of Anda (third).

LGUs with top number of participants namely Sta. Maria, Bautista, and Binalonan were also awarded cash prizes.

All cash prizes were provided by the provincial government.

Board Members Amado “Pogi” Espino III, who represented Gov. Amado Espino Jr., and Danilo Uy, the chairman of the provincial board committee on agriculture, and officer-in-charge PAgO, Dalisay Moya presented the certificates.
