MANAOAG— Hitmen riding in tandem struck again.

Fortunately, this time, their target, the assistant provincial health officer, survived the attack and suffered a gunshot wound on the shoulder.

Dr. Jeremy Agerico Rosario, also former board member of 4th district of Pangasinan, was attacked on his way home by unidentified persons riding in tandem on a motorcycle at around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday (March 11) along Barangay Baritao here.

P/Superintendent Ferdinand de Asis, chief of the Police Community Relations, said

Rosario was alone driving a provincial government-owned Avanza vehicle after visiting Mapandan Community Hospital where he is the concurrent hospital chief.

His driver had been dropped off in Mapandan town where he resides. It was when Rosario took over the wheel when the suspects who had tailed him shot him at close range by the driver’s seat.

Probers recovered at the crime scene one empty shell from caliber .45.

De Asis said Rosario managed to drive to the Mapandan Community Hospital for initial treatment.

He was transferred to Nazareth General Hospital in Dagupan City where he is already in stable condition.

De Asis said they are still trying to look for possible motives behind Rosario’s shooting, including work, politics being a former board member and personal.

A special investigation task group,  the Task Force ‘Ming’ Rosario, was immediately formed by Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Office, few hours after the incident on order of Governor Amado Espino Jr.

At his hospital bed, Rosario told newsmen that while driving on the way to Manaoag, he saw a motorcycle with two men on board tailing him and he thought they were merely rushing and wanted to overtake him.

When the motorcycle and the car were side by side, the backrider opened fire twice, the first bullet missed him and merely shattered the car’s  window. He was hit by the second shot.

One of the motives being established is work-related. Rosario was tasked by Gov. Espino to look into the complaints of patients of all provincial government-run hospitals against some erring hospital personnel.

He is hoping the police authorities will be able to solve and apprehend the mastermind and hired killers.

“I am just a quiet person. I just work for the province,” he said.
