Dagupan’s Bangus Festival set April 6 – May 1
THE 2015 Bangus Festival on April 6 to May 1 this year will be celebrated with a difference: only the certified crowd drawers in past festivities will be staged.
Mayor Belen Fernandez said limiting activities to crowd favorites will allow for preparation of more colorful and exciting main events in this year’s Bangus Festival which promises to be “The Happiest Fishfest Ever!”
The mainstays will include the Festivals of the North that will gather all the festivals’ street dancing champions in Central Luzon and the northern region to competed for the P200,000 cash prize.
The city’s barangays will send their contingents to the ‘Gilon-gilon’ street dancing in order to qualify as the city’s representative to the bigger Festivals of the North.
Barangay Lucao in Dagupan was last year’s ‘ Gilon-gilon’ champion and also the champion of the Festivals of the North.
Expected to draw thousands of Dagupeños to the more than three-kilometer stretch of the Jose R. De Venecia Expressway Extension will be the Bangusan Street Party where up to 4,000 kilos of milkfish will be expetcted to be grilled in 800 grills. (Each sponsored grill will be allotted five kilos of milkfish to broil).
Other activities include the international cookfest using the local milkfish, Bangus Rodeo, sports events and the Pista’y Dayat set on May1 at Tondaligan beach in Bonuan. (Leonardo Micua)
