When Le Tour de Filipinas came to Pangasinan
SEVENTY-FIVE cyclists crossed the finish line of the third leg of the 6th edition of the Le Tour de Filipinas in Lingayen last February 3.
The top three finishers of stage 3 were Harrif Salleh of Malaysia (first), Mehdi Sohrabi of Iran (second), and Tino Thomel of Taiwan (third).
The following day, Gov. Amado Espino Jr. fired the starting gun for the last stage of the race, from the Capitol Plaza to Baguio City.
According to Donna May Lina-Flavier, the president of the organizing committee Ube Media under the Lina Group of Companies. This race was originally known as Tour Pilipinas and Padyak Pinoy.
In 2009, the competition was then called Le Tour de Filipinas after it secured the license from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the international governing body of cycling.
“It is only the Le Tour de Filipinas that has this license,” Flavier said.
Flavier thanked the provincial government for hosting the third lap of the competition.
Only two Pangasinan cyclists joined the tour this year, namely, Jonipher Ravina and Ronald Oranza.
