EGG HATCHERY BUSINESS

LINGAYEN– The Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) is campaigning for more people to engage in small agricultural businesses, like backyard egg-hatchery business.

PESO chief Alex Ferrer said a Pilmico Foods Corp., the food subsidiary  of Aboitiz Equity Ventures, is set to provide technical support by providing an egg machine kit that includes 48 hens, feeds, and pens with watering system.

The hens  are expected to lay 30 eggs daily, or 300-320 eggs each hen, for 16-18 months.

The kit, costing P35,000, will be available to individuals and community associations or cooperatives that can avail of assistance by the provincial government.

“Some projects are not feasible because there is no demand but there is a big demand for eggs,” he said.

The egg machine kit has been introduced in the Visayas.

Meanwhile, Ferrer also urged families to also venture in backyard gardening of herbal plants for which PESO is prepared to hold seminars for interested parties.- (Johanne Macob)
