PESO found employment for 2,311 in 2014
THE Provincial Employment Services Office‘s (PESO) created job employment to 2,311 overseas and local jobs for Pangasinenses in 2014.
Alex Ferrer, PESO Chief, said 1,932 of these were placed in local companies, 279 in overseas jobs and 100 were employed under the Special Program for Employment of Students for the 12-month period.
The bulk of overseas employment were in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar in the Middle East for the construction industry; Taiwan for factory workers; and Hong Kong and Malaysia for household workers.
Local companies that hired Pangasinenses include Nanox Philippines and Red Dragon in Pampanga; Hitachi Global Storage and Technologies and Optis Philippines in Laguna; Epson Precision Philippines in Batangas; Hanjin Heavy Industries in Subic, Zambales; House Technology Industries in Cavite and some companies within Pangasinan and Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Regional Office reported the employment of some 72, 343 jobseekers 2014 and credited it to the collaboration between the regional office and the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) in the provinces.
This was disclosed by DOLE-1 Regional Director Grace Ursua in the Regional PESO Year-end Performance Assessment (YEPA) held in One Vittoria Hotel, Bantay, Ilocos Sur last week attended by 75 PESO managers across the region.
Ursua said PESO contribution to last year’s employment facilitation has exceeded accomplishments in 2013 by 103 percent, or an increase by 2,215 employed persons. (Tita Roces/ PIA)
