LINGAYEN—If ongoing negotiations with a multi-national company, the province may become a major player in the information technology (IT) and business processing outsource (BPO) industry in the country.

This was revealed by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. in his State of the Province Address (SOPA) on February 16, 2015 when he said a regional government center will likely be located in the province.

He cited an ongoing negotiation with MTD Philippines Inc. for the IT/BPO project.

MTD Inc. was the firm that built the Putrajaya Malasya Government Center in Malaysia.

The planned IT/BPO hub is in line with the current study being conducted by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines.

According to Espino, the company’s proposal is for the one-billion-peso project to be a public-private partnership venture, that will not require a capital outlay from the provincial government.

Alongside the plan on government center and IT/BPO hub, a commercial, residential and tourism multi-purpose complex in Pangasinan remains a high priority, the governor said.

SUCCESS RECORD

In his more than 30-minute SOPA centered on the theme “Tuloy-tuloy na Pag-angat, ” he reported that the province earned national and regional citations and awards in the government’s thrusts in agriculture, tourism, health, employment and livelihood and infrastructure.

Pangasinan remains a top producer of rice and corn in the previous years, as evidenced by the National Rice Achiever and National Quality Corn Achiever awards; a benchmark province in terms of health with P670-million fund allocated this year; and with an outstanding an employment services office.

Tourist arrivals have increased from 141,928 in 2008 to 4,224,000 in 2014.

Lahat ng ginagawa natin ngayon ay hindi para sa atin kundi para sa ating mga anak,” he remarked. (Johanne Macob)
