LINGAYEN – “This is ugly”.

IT was the terse reaction of former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco, who came to listen to Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr.’s SOPA, after listening to the surprise tirade of the governor in his speech.

He was seen leaving the premises immediately visibly annoyed after congratulating the governor and faced newsmen who sought him out for his reaction to the governor’s tirade against his political enemies whom he accused of being behind the latest adverse publicity against him and his administration.

“It’s like character assassination by innuendo,” he said.

He categorically denied having knowledge about the news articles that the governor referred to. “The insinuation that an ex-congressman was behind it is tailor-made for me as black propaganda”.

Cojuangco said he is not against black sand if the province would benefit from it as long as due process is observed in securing the necessary permits.

“The question is, did the province or only some individuals benefit from black sand mining?,” he asked. “I am not opposed to it if only few individuals would profit from it. That is the issue that must be answered.” he added.

He maintained the existence of black sand mining cannot be denied with the presence of a pile of a mountain of magnetite sand in the barangays. “How was the black sand segregated from the regular soil if there was no mining operation there?,” he added. (Tita Roces)
