Barangay folks take seminar on disaster preparedness
HUNDREDS of Dagupan residents from the 31 villages are now better prepared for disasters after attending disaster preparedness seminar last week at the Dagupan Astrodome.
The seminar, conducted by Eveready, one of the leading brands of batteries in the country, was aided by special tools and activities and taught residents practical applications in time of emergencies like natural calamities.
The seminar tackled topics on flood, earthquake, and fire emergencies.
According to Eveready brand manager Jojo Emata, “Because of the effects of climate change, we are now being hit by typhoons almost all-year round.”
“The impact and frequency has been alarming as of late, which is why there is an urgency to educate citizens about useful measures during emergency situations,” she added.
The activity introduced the E-balde emergency kit containing batteries, flashlights, medicines, water, canned goods, and other necessities for surviving calamities.
Each family should have an E-balde emergency kit, urged Louie Domingo from the Emergency Research Center.
The first 100 individuals who registered in the seminar received free batteries and flashlights while each village, represented by the village chieftain, was given emergency pack.
The activity was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility campaign dubbed “Pamilyang Ready, Ligtas na Community” which was first launched in 2010, coinciding with the company’s 100th year anniversary. (Johanne R. Macob)
