Kagawad arrested in shabu buy-bust
MALASIQUI— It appears that the touted all-out campaign of the provincial government to stop illegal drugs in the barangay is not being taken seriously by barangay officials.
A barangay kagawad and his companion were arrested after authorities seized from them two big sachets of shabu and other drug paraphernalia and cash in a buy bust operation Thursday afternoon in Rizal Avenue, Barangay Poblacion here.
Arrested were Ruben Mendoza, 39, single, resident of Barangay Gomez and Bryan Ballesteros, 27, resident of Barangay Bolaoit, both from this town.
Superintendent Armando Muena, town police chief, said the buy-bust was set after authorities were tipped off by a concerned citizen that Mendoza is allegedly into drug pushing.
Muena said the two big plastic sachets seized from Mendoza were worth about P12,000.
The police is conducting further investigation on the extent of network of Mendoza even as they have began closely monitoring other barangay officials who have been reported to be involved in illegal drugs. (Tita Roces)
