PANGASINAN SITUATION NOT UNIQUE

LINGAYEN–If Pangasinan has not had a permanent police provincial director (PD) for a some time, it is should not feel left out because other provinces are also in same situation.

This was the clarification made by Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Tomasito Villarin when he talked to newsmen after addressing the Pangasinan Anti-Illegal Drugs Summit last Dec. 10.

“It’s not only Pangasinan. I think, there are many other provinces where that is the problem,” said Villarin, who represented Interior Secretary Mar Roxas during the summit.

However, he said the department is already trying to correct the situation by rushing the nominating qualified and competent candidates as PD next year, including a list of nominees for Pangasinan.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr. told Villarin that no permanent PD was appointed in Pangasinan ever since his second term of office. Espino is now on his third and final term of office.

P/Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay is the latest provincial police OIC appointed last August and the governor expressed his preference to have him appointed as permanent PD.

Biay replaced P/Senior Supt. Sterling Raymond Blanco who stayed on as OIC for eight months.
Espino said that being the third most populous province in the country, Pangasinan deserves  a permanent police director  and he acknowledged that Biay, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) , has the right qualifications. (Leonardo Micua)
