Binmaley leaders shift to Mark C – Mark M tandem
COJUANGCO UPDATES
CALASIAO—It’s now 41 mayors and still counting with Binmaley as the latest addition to the growing number of supporters of former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco’s gubernatorial bid in 2016.
Binmaley Mayor Simplicio “Sammy” Rosario who was thrice elected as the chief executive of his town, accompanied by 17 barangay captains, five municipal councilors and hundreds of village officials, openly declared their support for Cojuangco and his chosen tandem for vice governor, Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay of this town, in a gathering here on December 19.
Rosario’s and Binmaley leaders’ sweet “yes” for Cojuangco-Macanlalay team up was a result of persistent courting of the two leaders, Rep. Conrad Estrella and Engr. Rosendo So of the Abono partylist, to join their group to push for greater progress for Pangasinan.
Rosario used to support the camp of Cojuangco’s perceived rival for the gubernatorial post, despite differences in some issues. The Binmaley mayor said he waited for any word from the governor for a meeting or a heart-to-heart talk for one and a half years after he was elected anew in 2013 but was in vain.
Photos show Cojuangco and Macanlalay in action during the declaration of support made by Binmaley top leaders and barangay officials.
“It’s okay even if we’re only your second choice but if he doesn’t want you, our doors are open for you,” Estrella, who is like a brother to Cojuangco, told Rosario during the gathering that was applauded by the crowd.
“If he doesn’t want you, don’t force yourself, because here with us, you’re the only one we want,” he added.
Estrella assured Rosario that Cojuangco is known for his palabra de honor (word of honor) and does not take candidates for granted.
“If he says he is with you, he will go out for you all the way,” he added.
Cojuangco thanked Rosario and the Binmaley delegation profusely as he went around to shake their hands individually for their declaration of support.
Cojuangco said he announced his bid in February as the incumbent governor is already in his third and final term, which under the law, is no longer allowed to seek re-election. He added he believes he has the right qualifications and capabilities to serve the people of Pangasinan.
He added that he would bring to the whole Pangasinan the successful kind of service he delivered to his district, having served as three-term congressman.
Also present during the gathering were former Board Member Von Mark Mendoza who will have a comeback in the second district in 2016 with the Cojuangco team, as well as Bugallon Mayor Ric Orduña, who will also seek a return to his post as mayor.
