1st Dagupan Agri Congress & Fair opens
ORGANIC agricultural products, anyone?
The 1st Dagupan City Agricultural Congress and Fair, a feature of the part of the month-long celebration of the City Fiesta, has on display and for sale organically-grown products harvested from the different schools’ ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ projects.
Emma Molina, city agriculturist, said the vegetables on display were products of each city school district that adopted best practices in new gardening technologies to promote healthier food.

Notably, the Bonuan Boquig Elementary School utilizes the gardening technologies of aquaponics and hydroponics.
Mayor Fernandez encouraged the students to plant the pepper and tomato seedlings that they last Monday.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and officials from the Department of Agriculture and Department of Education officially opened the exhibition last Monday at the City Plaza.
“We want to promote the participating schools’ abundant harvests and other products and to encourage efforts for sustainability,” said Molina.
The fair is also in line with the ‘Pagsasarili Program’ of the government, which aims to increase the production of agricultural products in schools.
“Planting trees in our schools and in our homes is one way of promoting health and wellness to our children. Through the Gulayan sa Paaralan program, we are teaching kids on the importance of eating healthy,” said Fernandez.
