Pangasinan receives 2nd Nat’l Award for Corn Production

LINGAYEN – It’s two in a row for the province of Pangasinan.

On behalf of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., Board Member Danilo C. Uy, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chairman on Agriculture, received the award for the second time in a row as one of the country’s Outstanding Provinces during the 2014 Agri Pinoy Quality Corn Achievers ceremony held in Limketkai, Cagayan de Oro City on November 19-21.

Elated over the award received by Pangasinan, Governor Espino expressed thanks to the corn farmers whose hard work and sacrifices in leveling up corn production are beyond measure.

Pangasinan emerged as a leading corn-producing province along with the provinces of Isabela, Occidental Mindoro, Agusan del Norte and Agusan Del Sur.

Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya was also hailed as one of the Outstanding Provincial Agriculturists as well as Danilo Tumamao (Isabela) and Carmelita Villanada (Occidental Mindoro). Other awardees from the province were: Venancio Valeroso, Outstanding Provincial Corn Coordinator and Cristina Sison, Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker.

The National Quality Corn Achievers Awards launched by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in 2013 recognizes the exemplary efforts of LGUs, provincial corn coordinators and agricultural extension workers to improve corn production and further develop the corn industry in the country.

“Pangasinan is adjudged for the second consecutive time as the country’s top quality corn-producing province as we exceeded the regional and national corn production average targets,” Moya said.
