New Dagupan City hall a go

CONSTRUCTION of a new Dagupan City Hall is now definitely a go after Mayor Belen Fernandez asked for an authority from the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) for her to look for a potential site along the Pantal-Lucao Road or the Jose R. de Venecia Expressway Extension and to negotiate for its purchase.

A letter of Fernandez to the SP through Vice Mayor Brian Lim dated September 26, 2014 was referred to the Committees on Laws, Ordinances and Judiciary headed by Councilor Alfie Fernandez and on Appropriations headed by Councilor Jeslito Seen.

Fernandez also requested for another authority from the SP to negotiate with a commercial bank or financial institution for a loan to bankroll the construction of a new and modern city hall.

Earlier, the barangay council of Pantal headed by Barangay Chairman Julie Ann Perez, passed a resolution thanking the city government for considering their village as potential location of the new city hall.

City Planning and Development Officer Romeo Rosario said the Pantal-Lucao road that leads to Bonuan is being developed as one of the newest growth centers of Dagupan.

The transfer of city hall is in line with the vision of the Fernandez administration to transform Dagupan into a ‘smart city’.

Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia admitted she and Mayor Fernandez are working closely in order to have a new city hall before the end of 2016.

She said she and the mayor, determined to build a new city hall, already sourced initial funding for the project. (LVM)
