Red tide alert still up in Alaminos

ALAMINOS CITY—The red tide alert here is still up after latest shellfish samples collected from its coastal waters were still found positive of paralytic shellfish poison.

Nestor Domenden, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources regional director cautioned the public against eating shellfishes, shrimps and crabs gathered/harvested from the waters of this city until further notice.

In an interview, Domenden said there is no known accurate cause of red tide pointing out there are very clean coastal areas in southern Philippines yet are still affected by red tide.

He said his agency simply monitors water quality, collects samples and meat samples of shellfishes regularly to determine if the toxin goes beyond the regulatory limit. (Tita Roces)
