LINGAYEN—Citing statistics covering the June 14- October 13, 2014, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) reported a significant decrease in the number of shooting incidents with 68, as compared to the same period last year with 89.

PPPO information officer Chief Inspector Ryan Manongdo said the improvement was mainly due to their intensified operations against the criminality and installing more checkpoints for Oplan Sita.

According to the PPPO data, 38 of the 68 shooting incidents this year were perpetrated by motorcycle-riding criminals.

Also, in the same comparative period, the police office seized 142 loose firearms this year compared to only 70 last year, while 448 wanted persons were arrested compared to last year’s 396.

In the campaign against illegal drugs, the PPPO conducted 186 operations compared to 99 last year that resulted in the confiscation of 147.5963 grams of shabu and 325.8889 grams of marijuana compared to 49.1005 grams and 11.7387 grams last year respectively. The confiscated illegal drugs, valued at P983,817, led to the arrests of 243 drug pushers and users compared to 142 last year, and the subsequent filling of 228 cases.

On illegal gambling, the 105 operations led to the arrest 181 persons, 53 cases filed, and confiscation of P137,785.25. Seized gambling paraphernalia included 30 video machines. Eight illegal were also stopped.

PPPO officer-in-charge provincial director Senior Superintendent Biay said the “aggressive implementation of different focused police operations” will continue, citing the strong police-community partnership and collaboration with the active support of other law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders” that make it possible for the operations to succeed.
