Perez, in his birthday message to Cojuangco in a simple celebration held at the latter’s residence in Sison town on Oct. 6 attended by mayors, vice mayors and other top leaders, said the former congressman is the kind of leader who refuses to accept money from contractors for infrastructure projects.

“He would tell them to spend the entire amount of the project honestly for the correct implementation of the project,” Perez said.

Manila Economic and Cultural Office Chairman Amadeo Perez Jr. delivers a testimonial for Cojuangco, why he would make a good governor, citing his good administration as three-term congressman and whose integrity was never tainted with graft and corruption.

Perez also recalled that an unnamed person behind an illegal numbers’ game also tried but failed to give jueteng money to Cojuangco but he refused to accept it. Mark is the son of business tycoon former ambassador Danding Cojuangco and had served as congressman for nine consecutive years.

“Who among you could tell that he would not make a good official and an honest-to-goodness public servant that his assumption, in case he wins as governor of Pangasinan, would be tainted with corruption?,” Perez, one of the few highly respected Pangasinan and durable leaders, said of Cojuangco.

Perez recalled that in November last year, there had been a clamor for Cojuangco to run for governor but he initially was not open to the idea. One of those who prevailed over Cojuangco was Perez who told him that he had served the fifth district of Pangasinan well and had embraced the province so he might as well serve the entire province.

The rest was history and Cojuangco announced his gubernatorial plan in February this year.

Mayors and vice mayors in the fifth district and top leaders of the province present during Cojuangco’s birthday bash were one in their optimism that Cojuangco would make a good governor as evidenced by his good governance in the fifth district. They assured him of their all-out support to his gubernatorial plan.

In his remarks, Cojuangco said he is elated by the growing support of leaders and people about his bid for province’s top post. He said he has been going around Pangasinan introducing himself and his vision through the projects he envisions for the province and its people.

He said the way to repay his colleagues and many others’ support to him is to try his best to make them proud of him based on what he can accomplish if given the chance to serve the province.

He said what motivated him to run for the province was the thought that he could make a difference contribute for the province with his innovative ideas.

“I think it’s time to change gears and I think my life has prepared me for this time and this job,” he said.

“I know how it is to be inside the corridors of power and I know how it is to be without any power or anything whatsoever,” he said.
