TO HONOR A TRUE PANGASINAN HERO

LINGAYEN- Another aberration in the province’s history has been corrected.

After it was determined that Rajah Kalantiao was merely a legendary character with no known roots in Pangasinan and whose exploits were products of imagination of some writers in the past, the provincial government, the prominent Kalantiao Building in the capitol complex was finally renamed Palaris Building.

Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., in his speech during the renaming ceremony of the building, expressed elation that significant historical facts about the province have been established during his watch.

He said his vision to restore Pangasinan’s sense of history and culture gave the province an indelible identity based on verified facts and dates.

He thanked those who painstakingly worked for the realization his cherished dream of make all Panasinenses proud of their heritage.

“Halos lahat ng kababayan natin ay ipinagmamalaki na rin ang Pangasinan,” Gov. Espino.

The renaming of Kalantiao Building as Palaris Building was based on Provincial Ordinance No. 179-2014 in honor of Juan Dela Cruz Palaris, a Pangasinense freedom fighter from Binalatongan now known as San Carlos City, “to preserve and foster his legacy of courage, patriotism and heroism.”

“Rajah Kalantiao, whom the building was earlier named, was just a hoax as he does not exist and has no historical records,” said Arabella Arcinue of the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission who was among those who spearheaded the renaming of the provincial building. (PIO-ADV)
