Gun ban still in effect in the province
LINGAYEN– The permit to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) is still in effect in Pangasinan ever since it was imposed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) following the slaying of Urtbiztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong in early part of June this year.
This was bared by Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) during the Question Hour of the regular session of the provincial board.
Biay said the Pangasinan PPO has not received any order from the regional office lifting the gun ban.
And when Sixth District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. asked him if he wants the gun ban imposed in Pangasinan by PNP Chief Alan Purisima to continue, Biay answered in the affirmative.
The OIC provincial director, who just assumed office two months ago, said the gun ban, together with intensified police operations in implementing Operation ‘Salakob’ did a lot to drastically reduce shooting incidents in Pangasinan over the past three months.
“We may recommend the lifting (of the gun ban) as soon as we are convinced that the situation is really under control,” said Biay in response the question of Board Member Bince.
He acknowledged that the resolution passed by the Pangasinan provincial board some time in the latter part of June his year seeking the lifting of the gun ban had been endorsed to the Police Regional Office 1.
The board members reiterated anew the lifting of the gun ban echoing the mounting call of licensed gun owners, particularly businessmen, who said they have no means to protect themselves if attacked by armed criminals.
Pangasinan is the only province where the permit to carry firearms outside of residence was suspended. (LVM)
