Eco-travel TV show supports ‘No to Tree-Cutting’
LINGAYEN – The host of an eco-travel show on ABS-CBN’s news channel, ANC, expressed his support for the provincial government’s advocacy against tree-cutting in Pangasinan.
Rubi Palafox-Esteves, host of Rubi on a Road Trip’, commended Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. and the people of Pangasinan “for doing all efforts to stop the cutting of century-old trees along the Manila North Road in the eastern part of the province.”
“The Philippine Clean Air Act says that it is the right of every Filipino to breathe in clean air; and we can do that by planting and growing trees,” Esteves said and expressed dismay over the cutting of 1,059 centuries old trees along the MNR to give way to the road widening project of the Department of Public Ways and Highways.
Esteves said she visited the areas where trees were cut down and saw how the trees were girdled, noting that the trees are not dead and must never be cut down.”
Saying that in some countries, century-old trees affected by road-widening projects are moved to better places instead of being cut down, Esteves pointed out that there are a lot of ways people can do to preserve trees.
“We can also design another road on the right side of the trees as slow lane, and then continue to enjoy the beauty and benefits of the trees,” she suggested.
PANGASINAN FEATURED
The production staff of the TV show was in the province from September 30 to October 1 to shoot the Cabongaoan white beach in Burgos, Mangrove Information and Propagation Center in Bolinao that is managed by the provincial government, and the Agno River, country’s fifth biggest river which will be featured on their show on October 25 (6:30PM) Saturday, and October 26 (8:30AM) Sunday.
Featuring the province of Pangasinan in the eco-travel TV show, according to Esteves, is not only featuring the natural resources, but also the people behind it. “We want to feature all the blessings in Pangasinan – from mountains to rivers, coastal and the marine life,” Esteves said as she commended the “Ilog Ko, Aroen Tan Bilayen Ko” program of the province which is anchored on preserving the natural beauty of river systems in the province, maximizing it as a sustainable source of livelihood to marginalized fishermen and as a long term flood mitigation.
