41 business establishments face closure
DAGUPAN CITY–At least 41 retail stores operating inside the Malimgas Market without a mayor’s permit were served the final demand notice by the by the city treasurer’s office (CTO) to secure the permit in order to continue with their business in the city.
Romelita Alcantara, city treasurer said the list of establishments without the necessary permits was forwarded to them by the One-Stop Shop Business Center.
“We have served the third and final demand last August and we are just waiting for the approval of the local chief executive to implement the closure of these businesses”, said Alcantara.
She said that the closure of establishments is in accordance with the amended Dagupan City revenue code particularly Article 15 titled “Mayor’s Permit” authored by Councilor Jeslito Seen.
The ordinance empowers the city treasurer to close business establishments without or with expired, non-renewed business and mayor’s permit on or before January 20 of every year.
However, the ordinance exempts the microbusinesses in barangays whose gross capital do not exceed three million pesos. They are deemed exempted under the Barangay Microbusiness Enterprises Act of 2002.
Alcantara said she will prioritize the closure of businesses without permits operating inside the city’s government-owned establishments before proceeding with the other establishments.
She admitted that she is still studying the case of Citystate Savings Bank that has a pending case in court against the city government. The bank still has not submitted the required business and building permits for its operations at the MC Adore building. (Hilda M. Austria)
