4 Binmaley HS girls hurt in hazing
BINMALEY—The local police here are investigating the reported hazing rites that victimized four female high school students of Parayao National High School.
The victims, ages 16-17 years old in third and fourth year levels, told school officials of their ordeal and showed the bruises on their legs caused by wooden paddle used during the hazing rites by their “masters” who belong to a community youth organization called “Scout Royale.”
One of the victims said she and her colleagues accepted an invitation to a house hoping to gain more friends but were not told of any hazing to be able to join the group. She said they were blindfolded when they arrived.
P/Superintendent Marlo Castillo, acting-police chief, said Thursday the victims were allegedly threatened with physical harm if they report what they went through.
P/Inspector Apollo Calimlim of the Binmaley Police Station said parents of the victims were mad upon seeing the injuries sustained by their daughters, prompting them to report to the police.
Benedict Fernandez, school guidance counselor, said they prohibit their students from joining any fraternity or sorority in their school that would make them undergo hazing activities.
The hazing was done in an abandoned house in Barangay Naguilayan this town.
He said the victims had a recruiter for the organization composed mainly of male members. “Fortunately they were not abused sexually,” he added.
Fernandez said the school is investigating further to determine if there were more students who were recruited and made to undergo hazing rites.
Two suspects, a19-year old suspect and a minor (both out of school youths) are now under police custody. Both denied involvement in the activity. (Tita Roces)
