TO appropriately celebrate Dagupan City’s fiesta in December, it’s theme “One Voice, One Dream, One City” will be reflected in the array of activities lined up for the month long celebration.

According to this year’s fiesta Hermano Mayor, Councilor Jeslito C. Seen, the fiesta will be doubly significant because 2014 marks Dagupan’s 400th year as a parish.

“Our month-long city fiesta will be a celebration filled with music, arts and culture and the celebration of the 400 years of Dagupan as a parish is anchored on a theme which amply exemplifies the spirit of unity for Balon Dagupan,” Seen told the organizational meeting last week attended by department heads, DepEd officials and representatives of the senior citizens.

He announced he together with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as honorary chairman and Councilor Jose Netu M. Tamayo, as deputy hermano mayor, they agreed on a soft opening on November 15 with the start of the “parol” (lantern) and Belen making  (nativity-scene-making) contest in the barangays.

It will be followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree with singing of Christmas carols on December 4 in front of the city museum and the Grand Civic parade will be on December 16.

Other activities will include art collage workshop, painting gallery, philharmonic concert, poem reading, the War of Our Fathers’ photo exhibit, Beat The Feat contest, car show, Children’s Day field demo, talents of all talents, seafood festival, cheer dance competition, the LIRA of Department of Education and the playing of Christmas songs.

The 1st BTF Balon Dagupan Inter-School Folkdance Competition and the Island Tours, ‘Araw ng May ‘K’ for persons with disabilities, a three-day agri fair, and the inauguration of Senior Citizens building and the fluvial parade in honor of the city’s patron saint, St. John the Evangelist will also be scheduled.

A mass wedding, baptism and confirmation and the 400 years of Dagupan procession at the cathedral will be organized.

The annual Food Strip and “Baratilyo” will begin on the first day of December.

“We have also set a day for senior citizens, volunteers, transport groups, educators, city hall employees, Dalton group, barangay officials, alumni of University of Pangasinan and Dagupan City National High School and Rotary Clubs,” Seen said. (CIO-Joseph C. Bacani)
