Baraan: Cojuangco’s gutter language is ‘self-projection’
THE Espino administration lashed back anew at former Congressman Mark Cojuangco’s continued defiance of the provincial government’s decision to uphold both the resolution of the sanggunian panlalawigan and the memorandum of agreement that opposes the cutting of trees along the Manila North Road (MNR).
Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan questioned the former congressman’s motive even as he admonished the latter’s insensitive use of gutter language such as “ilo” (Pangasinan and Ilocano word for toilet paper), in dismissing the supplemental agreement of like-minded and well-meaning public servants and environmental advocates.
“It is an eloquent self-projection that is reflective of what’s inside his head,” Baraan said.
He added the agreement was an offshoot of the provincial board resolution and reinforced by similar directives from DENR Sec. Ramon Paje and DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson.
Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. had also stated in an earlier press conference his opposition to the cutting of trees, affirming that there is no need for the cutting of trees if only to widen the Manila North Road (MNR) since the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) is being built parallel to the MNR designed to accommodate the growing traffic volume and fast lane travellers.
“If Mr. Cojuangco is sincere in saying that he will never disrespect the provincial board or the governor, why has he remained stubborn calling for the cutting those very old and irreplaceable trees along the MNR, even after the provincial board and the governor have openly declared their position against the cutting of the trees?” he asked.
“Mr. Cojuangco should learn and begin to listen to the silent majority including businessmen and ordinary citizens, whose rights have been violated, feelings deeply hurt, properties destroyed, and their future compromised, as a result of this whimsical and patently cruel plan to widen the Manila North Road, which has also caused irreparable damage to a large portion of this historic and environmental treasure and scenic drive across the Province of Pangasinan,” he added.
He reiterated Gov. Espino’s firm stand that there should be no cutting of trees along the MNR Road in contrast to Cojuangco’s stand favoring the cutting of the trees. (PIO)
